Description

The spirit - it is a non-GI compliant peated pot still, in an individually sourced PX Sherry cask, with a one-off, high oat content mashbill.
Coming in at a whopping 60.7% but it doesn't drink like that!

This cask #KD072 is one of the Killowen founder/original offer casks and is a private bottling.

The inspiration for this ‘Northern Lights’ release is the Great Red Aurora, very rare as they require a perfect mix of heavenly conditions – just like the creation of this great spirit.

The unique folded insert contains a sketch from Fran Leavey of the Red Northern Lights over Killowen Distillery, descriptive tasting notes from the always unique imagination of Fionnán O'Connor (whose summary is - 'Fun stuff and brings the funk'!), and the usual transparent details of the mash bill, cask and other details from Killowen Distillery on this release.

The first 40 bottles, of which this is one, also have an additional Northern Lights artwork on the base of the bottle (hand painted by Fran also), which gives an added unique quality to this 199-bottle release.

Distilled in June 2020 and Bottled in August 2023.
