Description

Black Bull 40 Year Old Batch No. 2 is made of 90% single malt and 10% single grain and is bottled at cask strength. The spirit is completely natural, non chill filtered and with no added colour. The 40 year old was distilled in 1970 and the 45 year old components were distilled in 1965 and it was bottled just over 10 years ago in February 2011. Such a high malt content is common in older blends, but 90% malt is indeed a very high malt content even for a 40 year old premium blend. Cask content is mostly ex Bourbon (about 80%) with the resdt coming from ex sherry casks. The blend itself is comprised of whiskies from Ivergordon 45 Year Old grain component and 40+ year old single malts from Tamdhu, Bunnahabhain and The Glenlivet. Very limited batch as you can see with only 957 bottles ever made.

Speyside

The Concentration of world class distilleries that exist along the banks of the river Spey cannot be overstated. Brands such as Glenfiddich, Glenlivet, Macallan and Aberlour are no stranger to anyone but these are only some of the many distilleries that produce more than 60% of all of Scotland’s single malt whisky. The taste profile of speyside whisky can be classified as 2 different styles. The light, grassy malts from distilleries such as The Glenlivet and Glenfiddich and the rich, sweet big bodied taste of Macallan and The Glenfarclas. The older speyside whiskies can now demand huge prices when they appear for sale with recent highlights of the Macallan selling in excess of $1.3 Million. Most collectors are not spending that sort of money but they still are going over any estimates that are put on them.
