The exact closure date of Mitchell & Co. of Belfast is unclear. Still, surviving bottles, signs, and ceramic advertising pieces indicate the firm traded from at least the late 19th century and remained active into the early 20th century, with evidence suggesting the brand persisted into the 1920s–1930s.

This crock was likely sold around the turn of the century; later examples of Mitchells are in imperial glass bottles and smaller glass bottles.

The Port Dundas Pottery Co. in Glasgow was the maker of the crock and operated between 1828 and 1932.
