2014 Clos des Jacobins Saint Emilion Grand Cru
Tasting Profile & Drinking Window
Tasting notes:
Red and black fruits (blackberry, blueberry, cassis), with subtle floral, tobacco, leather, and graphite accents .
Clos des Jacobins Saint-Émilion Grand Cru 2014 is a richly structured Bordeaux wine made primarily from Merlot, with smaller proportions of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. At nearly a decade of age, this vintage will have developed some secondary characteristics—earthiness, tobacco, and truffle—while retaining dark fruit, spice, and firm tannins.
Balanced palate: medium-bodied, fresh, gently grainy tannins, mineral lift, good persistence
Drinkability:
Optimal drinking from 2019 through around 2030–2035, depending on tasting preference
Here are ideal food pairings to complement its structure and flavor profile:
Meat & Poultry
• Roast Lamb with Herbs (e.g., rosemary, thyme) – Classic pairing with Merlot-based Bordeaux.
• Duck Breast with Cherry or Blackberry Sauce – Matches the wine's dark fruit and acidity.
• Beef Wellington – Earthy mushroom duxelles and tender beef play beautifully with the wine’s structure.
• Venison or Game Stew – Complements the wine’s rustic and earthy tones.
Cheeses
• Aged Comté
• Gruyère
• Tomme de Savoie
• Mimolette (aged)
Avoid overly strong blue cheeses (they’ll overpower it), and opt for nutty, firm textures.
Truffle & Root Vegetables
• Truffle Pasta or Tagliatelle with Black Truffle Oil
• Roasted Root Vegetables with Garlic and Olive Oil – Earthy and sweet elements mirror the wine’s depth.
