A Very Rare Bottle from Irelands distilling Heritage
70proof 26 2/3 Fl ozs
Hewitt's Whiskey
Hewitt's Whiskey was produced by Cork Distilleries Company, Cork, Ireland and the brand was relaunched in May 1964 having commenced developing the blend ten years earlier. The Hewitt family were founders of the Watercourse distillery in Cork which later became part of Cork Distilleries Company. The whiskey was bottled at 70 proof with a driven cork with a mid level fill in the neck. This extremely rare bottling likely dates from the mid 1960s when the brand was relaunched to compete against scotch. Note whisky spelt without the 'e' which was common for distilleries outside Dublin at the time. Uniquely the original blend consisted of Irish grain whiskey, Irish malt whiskey and peated malt whiskey and was designed to produce a light Irish whiskey to appeal to modern tastes at the time. Again note the term Irish Whiskey does not appear on the label indicating that indeed it may have contained peated scotch. Following the merger which created the Irish Distillers Limited in 1966 this was re-formulated to exclude peated malt and the 'e' was added to whiskey.
